Starting a family is an exciting thing! Whether this is your first child or fifth child, there are many questions that a new parent has, to ensure their baby grows up to be an independent and successful adult. From birth to 3 years old, everything your child learns comes from YOU!
In the State of California, children are required to go to school when they are 6 years old [https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/gs/em/kinderinfo.asp]. But what can you do BEFORE they start Kindergarten? For children who are experiencing developmental delays or receive a diagnosis such as Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, or Intellectual Disability related to a Genetic Condition, there are many services available through the state and local non-profits.
In Spring 2022, the CDC updated their guide on Developmental Milestones each child should achieve through the ages 0-3 years old. These updates could confuse many parents. For example, milestones related to language acquisition were pushed off to later months saying that a child should have a vocabulary of 50 words at 30 months old, instead of the previous milestone at 24 months old. This is just one of many updates, to find out more information and education on how to review the Developmental Milestones outlined by the CDC contact us HERE. These updates can be found at [https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html] .
Why is it important to understand the Milestones listed by the CDC? That's because those are the criteria that ALL Early Intervention programs, mostly through the Regional Center of Orange County, use as the criteria for ACCESS to some of their services. HOWEVER, there are many many resources available through the Regional Center, even beyond the time after a child turns 3 years old. Contact us for more information on how to better access available services.
